Three students: Derek (James Marsden), Cathy (Lena Headley) and Travis (Norman Reedus) need an interesting topic for a class project. So, Derek convinces the others to do a class project on gossip and rumors. Having seen classmate Naomi (Kate Hudson) drink too much at a party with her boyfriend Beau (Joshua Jackson), they start a rumor that she was raped by her boyfriend. When Beau is arrested and charged for the rape, Cathy tries to talk the others into calling off the project. However, Derek is unwilling to do so. It all gets very messy when Naomi commits suicide….
